Whimsical Bee Logo

Whimsical Bee Logo sign mockup

An online shop owner needed a logo for her new endeavor, starting with an etsy shop selling handmade cards, tags, and decor items. She wanted to include bee imagery, a fun but simple font, and a finished logo that, “you could imagine on a wooden sign hanging outside of a cute shop.”

Early pencil drafts of the Whimsical Bee logo.

I used a fun but readable script font above a bright, cheerful bumblebee and a half-wreath of colorful wildflowers.

Throwback Thursday, Makey Makey

A peek in the archives at some of my older work.

A cute illustration I ‘inked’ in Adobe Illustrator. It shows how to use the Makey Makey Go, a little prototyping board for experimenting and inventing.

Kids’ Holiday Fontsquirrel Typefaces!

This month, my free fonts spotlight focuses on some fun fonts to use in Christmas projects for kids! There are quite a few lists out there of free fonts that feature candy cane letters or letters with snow on them. But I looked for fonts that evoked the holidays yet are easy for young readers to read (including some simple script faces). I found some art deco faces, old-time serif faces, hand-written and bouncy faces, plus some retro scripts, and even a readable blackletter font.

Today’s selection is from fontsquirrel, another trustworthy source that vets all their fonts and gives credit to the creators. Download links are after the infographic.
